Chronic Fatigue Syndrome And Chiropractic Treatment

I’m sure you’re looking at the title of this post and wondering how exactly a chiropractic adjustment can actually improve chronic fatigue over time. I don’t blame you for being skeptical, if that is how you are feeling right now. The thing is, I was inspired to do some research and write about this topic after I met up with a friend of mine over coffee recently. She spent a good portion of our time together swearing by her chiropractic treatments and how they’ve drastically improved her ability to fall asleep and stay asleep. She claimed that she was waking up feeling refreshed almost every day, especially on the mornings after a chiropractic adjustment had been performed on her.

I’ve never been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but I’ve definitely experienced a string of hazy, tired days from time to time, usually from stress or poor sleeping or eating patterns. Still, her enthusiastic response to her chiropractic treatment, and the bundle of energy that she had become made me want to do a little digging into the topic. That’s how I came across an article by Chiropractic Now that discusses how chiropractic care can actually improve the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). This is what I learned.

This health issue is not always entirely understood by doctors, even if and when they diagnose a patient with it. As it turns out, there are often a variety of factors that come into play that can end up allowing CFS to develop in a patient. Allergies, stress, chronic headaches or pain related issues such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, or restless leg syndrome, and even depression can come together to make sleep nothing more than an elusive dream for some people. People who live with CFS often report feeling drained of energy, and sometimes even compare the experience to how they imagine it would feel to be drained of blood by a vampire.

Regardless of how it is described, there is one natural remedy for CFS, and that is chiropractic care. Adjustments to the spinal column, the upper cervical area of the body, the lower back area, or the neck and shoulders have been shown to relieve many patients of their chronic tiredness and fatigue over time. This may be because a spinal column that is out of alignment tends to create disturbances in the nervous system, and inflammation often flares up in the surrounding muscles and soft tissues as a result. This understandably makes sleep elusive, but chiropractic can put your body back on track.
