Tips To Help You Stay Hydrated

Surprisingly enough, one of the most common ways that we end up sabotaging our health is one of the simplest to fix, at least in my opinion. It really is alarming to me how something as seemingly simple as dehydration can wreak total havoc on our bodies, including damage to both our physical as well as our mental health and well being. This is why many nutritionists and doctors find that it is important to continue to stress the significance of staying hydrated, regardless of the weather outside.

I recently found an article by Women's Health that shares some great ideas on how to remember to stay hydrated even when life gets busy and hectic. Here are some of the tips I have started following; I have already noticed a great improvement in the amount of hydration I get every day.

One of the most common reasons why people have trouble drinking plenty of water is because they find it to be so bland, especially when it's compared to all the other drinks available out there. When juice and soda are brimming with flavor, why bother with water? Unfortunately, juices and sodas tend to have no or little nutritional value, and often may even cause you to become dehydrated.  This is why it is much better and healthier to simply add your own customized flavoring to water. Cut up some fresh fruit slices for a delicious thirst quencher. I personally like having cucumber or orange slices in my water, but you can also use lemon, lime, strawberries, or even mint.

Of course, water isn't the only place you can find hydration, although it is the best source of it. Pure green or black teas are water based drinks with antioxidants and stronger taste, which may be appealing to some people. Celery and melons are also great for providing hydration and nutrition to the body, so be sure to stock up on these foods as well.

If you are a fan of spicy food, you are in luck. Spicy foods will of course help you desire more water, so be sure to add pepper flakes and fresh chilies to your favorite dishes in order to gulp in the benefits. Spicy food has also been proven to boost the metabolism, so be sure to use it often.

If after trying all these suggestions, you are still having trouble getting enough water intake each day, you may want to start installing a reminder on your phone. You can do this by having a time go off every thirty minutes that reminds you to drink water. Over time, this will become second nature to you.
