How to Fight Off Sugar Cravings

 

Sugar is so, so, so good. It’s rare to find someone that genuinely doesn’t care for this sweet treat in many forms. Cupcakes, pies, ice cream...it’s all delicious. The problem comes when we eat a bunch of the good stuff. Even though it tastes delicious, it definitely isn’t the healthiest food on the planet. If you’re anything like me, this not only means that you have a hard time quitting, but once you do, you are filled with cravings seemingly non stop! If you would like to kick the sugar cravings to the curb for good, check out these simple tips for getting rid of cravings.

Chew Gum

Ok, so you’re going to get a tiny, tiny amount of sugar in the gum, but when you compare it to the amount you would get with a sweet treat, go ahead and reach for the gum. Not only will you get a little sugar for your craving, but the act of chewing helps hunger to subside. The less hunger you feel, the less likely you are to reach for the twinkie or the slice of pie.

Find an Alternative

A great alternative when you are craving something sweet is fruit. Fruit is low calorie, fairly sweet, and can definitely work in a pinch. At first, it might not completely satisfy your craving, but soon you’ll find that not only is your craving quenched, but you feel better because of the healthy foods that you are putting into your body.

Snack Often

Another great way to get rid of sugar cravings is to snack on a regular basis. The more you keep hunger at bay, the much less likely you are to grab a sweet treat. Grab a handful of nuts, some veggies, or some delicious fruit and keep those sugar cravings far away.

Drink Water

When you feel a craving coming on, just fill up a glass of water instead. Water will help you feel full and will also help to determine whether you were really hungry or not. A great bonus is that water is no calorie, so instead of grabbing a high calorie, high sugar snack, you can feel full without doing any damage to your diet.

If you are suffering from sugar cravings far too often, use these tips to keep them far away. It may take a while, and it will definitely take some self discipline, but a sugar free life is possible.
