The Top Reason Not to Buy Weight Loss Supplements
Even though many health articles warn readers not to buy weight loss supplements, many people still do. Why? There is just a natural attraction towards big promises. Who wouldn’t want to have more energy or lose ten pounds in a week, just by taking a pill? What is even more confusing is when a celebrity or health expert promotes a certain weight loss supplement. We all know the truth about weight loss supplements (or maybe you don't), they do not deliver on their promise, and they come with a lot of health dangers.
A new study was just published in Journal of the American Medical Association discussing its recent findings. Many recalled weight loss supplements were actually returning to the shelf months after being recalled. The supplements still had the dangerous and illegal substances in them which were linked to heart attacks and strokes.
In fact, between 2009-2012, the FDA recalled 274 dietary supplements. Researchers from Cambridge and Harvard University then found that 27 of the products were back on the shelves with the same ingredients, same name, and same packaging. The researchers did not even look into all the of supplements that had changed their name or packaging to make it back on the shelves.
Many people have the assumption that the FDA can protect them from these dangerous products, but the truth is that while the FDA does take civil and criminal prosecution towards these companies and distributors, there is just a slim margin that win. Basically, you as the consumer need to be more careful about what you buy and consume.
Protect Yourself from Bad Supplements
How do you avoid these harmful substances and supplements? The easiest way to protect your health is to stay away from all weight loss supplements to begin with. So many supplements have not been found to work or help, even if they do not contain the dangerous ingredients. So why take the risk in trying a weight loss supplement that will not help your weight?
No one likes to hear the right way to lose weight, which is to go slowly, eat healthier, and exercise regularly. However, any weight loss plan or supplement that claims fast weight loss is usually dangerous or does not yield lasting results. Think of it this way, even if weight loss takes two years to accomplish, you will still have done it in a much healthier way. Would you rather take two years to lose your weight but have many more years of good health, or would you rather take off all of your weight in two months while shortening your life by two years due to unseen health complications?
