Know When to Replace Workout Gear for Optimal Health
When was the last time you inspected your workout gear? If you don’t have a clue, then it may be time to give your favorite attire a closer inspection. While fitness apparel and equipment is pricey, it was not made to last forever, and it can actually cause you more harm than good. Here’s what you need to know about which gym equipment to replace.
Sports Bras
Ladies, your sports bras only last six months to a year. If you are using a second bra for better support, or if your bra has malfunctioning clips or is too stretched out, then it is time to throw it away. For some ladies, a supportive bra is essential to prevent back pain before and after a workout.
Workout Shoes
Some common signs of worn out workout shoes are if they have a worn down tread on the bottom, wrinkled foam on the inside, or are just misshapen. Most workout shoes are only meant to last a year, so it is important to replace them often, especially if you workout regularly. Working out with poor foot support can put you at risk for injury and even cause you back pain, since your back will work harder to support your body.
Bike Helmet
If your bike helmet has any fraying or cracks, then it is time to get a new one. Helmets can last up to five years if they are kept in good condition and in a good area. However, if your helmet is exposed to extreme heat or garage fumes, it could compromise the safety of the helmet.
Headphones
Headphones can really pump up your workout, but you must know that they will be exposed to a lot of wear and tear, as well as sweat. Look for water- and sweat-resistant headphones that are not made of flimsy plastic. You want them to be durable, but it is also wise not to just shove them in your gym bag either. It is wise to replace headphones every few years.
Yoga Mats
No one wants to Namaste on a disgusting mat. Not only can yoga mats get gross and even contain a lot of bacteria if you don’t wipe them down often, but they can also become ineffective. Regular use can cause sinking spots and cause the mat to flake and deteriorate. When this happens, it is time to get a new yoga mat.
Make sure to keep your workout gear in shape so that it can help keep you in shape.
