Dr. Charlsie Mitchell became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2020 when she began serving residents in the Houston area, where she continues doing the work she finds so gratifying -- not only as a chiropractor but as the clinic director.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is empowering people to know that their bodies can heal themselves given the right tools,” she says. “I think this is so important today with the number of people who feel like they have to be on medications for the rest of their lives due to pain. I love getting to see people who have had chronic pain feel hope for the first time.”
It also provides her the opportunity to really get to know her patients: “I love when the whole family comes in together to get an adjustment and live a healthier life.”
Dr. Mitchell grew up in Cypress and worked previously in Magnolia.
She shares time with her dog, Tallie, “a stray from Oklahoma who found her way to me while I was in chiropractic school.” They share time outdoors doing their favorite pastime, hiking. Dr. Mitchell also enjoys doing puzzles when rainy days confine her to the indoors.
She earned her bachelor’s of science in kinesiology at Texas A&M before getting her doctorate of chiropractic from Parker University in Dallas. Notable areas of study include prenatal and pediatric chiropractic.
“I was introduced to chiropractic after a fall in which I injured my back,” Dr. Mitchell says. “I figured the pain would just work itself out, but when it didn’t, I sought out chiropractic. This helped me within a few sessions and I knew I wanted to help others the same way.”
“Some of my favorite stories in chiropractic involve helping babies be able to sleep and eat better, moms being able to have the birth they want, and with people who have chronic pain feel hope for the future.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Mitchell says the one thing she always keeps stocked in her kitchen is coffee: “There is nothing better than a morning coffee.”
If she could bring together any four people from history for her ideal dinner party, she would look to singers Blake Shelton, Nick Jonas, John Legend, and Kelly Clarkson of The Voice. “They just have so much fun together and it seems like it would be fun to be in the same room with them,” she says, “but I would rather have dinner with my friends and family any day, though.”
One of the great experiences of her life was traveling around New Zealand and Australia for three month before she began her chiropractic studies. “I met so many different kinds of people, hiked to a new waterfall every day, and said yes to adventure and made so many amazing memories,” she says. “I developed a new perspective on the world and learned that everyone knows where Texas is.”
Some of the best advice she ever received came from within her family. “Ask for what you want,” she says. “This is something my mom told me in regards to life. The worst thing that can happen is they say no.”
