Dr. Mackenzie Futrell joined The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2025 when she began serving residents in Houston, relishing the opportunity to do the work she finds so rewarding.

“One of the best things about working in the chiropractic field is the ability to help people heal using my hands rather than relying on alternative medications,” she says. “There is something deeply rewarding about identifying the root of a problem and using precise, skilled adjustments to restore balance and function in the body. Seeing patients experience relief, improved mobility, and a better quality of life through natural, hands-on care makes the work both meaningful and fulfilling.”

Dr. Mack grew up in Florence, a small Texas town where everyone knows everyone, and community truly matters. “In a place like that, you learn early to look out for others, and I always knew I wanted a career where I could help people in a meaningful way,” she says. “Chiropractic felt like a natural fit because it combines my athletic background, my appreciation for hands-on care, and my desire to serve others by helping them stay strong, healthy, and active.”

She describes her husband, Garrett, as “the smartest man I know. He can fix anything, literally ANYTHING,” she says.

The couple has two “doggy children,” huskies named Dakota and Suka. “They are my best boys,” she says.

In her spare time, Dr. Mack loves to be outside. “I do a lot of hunting, fishing, hiking, and adventuring when I can,” she says. She also enjoys reading and has been developing a new hobby – making sourdough bread.

Dr. Mack earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Biology at Lamar University in Beaumont, where she played collegiate softball. She earned a Doctorate at Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena.

“I knew chiropractic was my calling because it found me at a moment when I felt broken and frustrated,” she says. “Playing collegiate softball was everything to me, until an injury took that sense of control away. I tried everything to get better, pushing through pain, following the usual routes, but nothing truly helped. Then I finally visited a chiropractor, and for the first time, I didn’t just feel temporary relief. I felt real healing begin. That experience changed everything. I was a pre-physical therapy major, like so many other athletes. But I realized I wanted to be different. I wanted to give people the same hope and healing I had been given, so I switched to chiropractic, and every step since has felt aligned with who I am and why I’m here.”

One of her most memorable experiences was seeing a patient who had been in multiple accidents where pain and spinal injuries had taken away her independence. “Walking was difficult and she could no longer work,” she says. “Week after week we worked together, slowly, intentionally, and with a lot of trust. Over time she began to regain her strength and eventually she reached a point where she could take care of herself, return to work, and truly start living her life again instead of just surviving. It showed me the power of chiropractic care and left me grateful for the skills I was learning and the privilege of being part of someone’s journey back to a normal, fulfilling life.”

Dr. Mack always keeps cheese and potatoes stocked in her kitchen. “Cheese is a great source of protein and calcium, which helps support muscle function and bone health,” she says. “Potatoes are underrated nutritionally; they’re packed with potassium, fiber, and complex carbohydrates that provide lasting energy, especially important for staying active.”

If she could plan the ideal dinner party including four famous guests, Dr. Mack would invite:

  • Michael Jordan – “He was even picked last for his high school team, yet he became arguably the greatest basketball player of all time”

Dr. Mack and her husband once completed a nine-mile hike, ascending more than 3,000 feet in elevation. “The climb was exhausting, every step pushing me to my limits, but when we reached the summit, I was completely unprepared for what I saw,” she says. “I felt completely out of my body, filled with awe and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the life we are given. That experience changed the way I face challenges, the way I appreciate the little things, and the way I strive to live each day with intention, wonder, and gratitude.”

Dr. Mack’s best advice is related to that experience. “Never give up, no matter how steep or exhausting the climb feels,” she says. “Life is a lot like climbing a mountain. The path can be long, cold, and full of obstacles, and you can feel like turning back. But if you keep taking one step at a time, pushing through the fatigue and doubt, the view from the top is worth every struggle.
