Easy Ways to Move Out of Your Comfort Zone

Leaving a comfort zone can be a big deal. If you are a groove type person like I am, you would just as soon stay in your comfort zone. That’s where all of your favorite books, people and music are. But of course you also know there is a whole world of opportunities out there that you might really like if you ventured out of your comfort zone and bumped into them.

Some people define their comfort zone in terms of geography, where they grew up or where they live now. Others think of comfort zones in terms of career choices, what they do and want to keep on doing. But actually comfort zones can be about lots of things, and if we want to grow and open the door to new opportunities we just have to open the door a little bit at a time.

Lifehack says we can do this step by step, stretching our comfort zones as we go. Start by accepting new situations and slightly different arrangements in your regular routines. Surround yourself with new people and always be open to meeting more. Keep right on learning, have faith in your ability to grow, and be kind to yourself as you expand your world.

Essentially what this means is you can expand your comfort zone anytime you want, or you can keep what you have. All you are doing by meeting new people and reaching out for new ideas or new information is opening the door to opportunity. Sometimes there will be something amazing out there that you are glad you did not miss. Other times, things out there might look remarkably similar to the situations you are already in.

The whole idea is to just be receptive.

I have known people in their thirties who had already locked in their ideas of what the world meant to them. At the same time I have known people who were in their sixties, having already excelled in exciting careers, but they were still looking for that next challenge. Those people never retire, they stay incredibly young for their age, and thrive on each new experience.

You have to be the judge if you want to close the door and just settle into your comfort zone, or if you want to hang the welcome sign out and find out what else is out there. And of course the timing is strictly up to you. You can open or close your comfort zones any time you choose.
