How to Really Get Motivated to Workout in the AM

Working out first thing in the morning is such a great habit to have. A morning workout can boost your metabolism, and increase your creativity and productivity for the rest of the day. There is only one problem – actually waking up to do the workout. Use these tips to finally get yourself up and sweating in the a.m.

Set Two Alarms

By setting two alarms, you are making it extremely inconvenient to go back to sleep. For an even greater chance of getting yourself awake and moving, set one of the alarms to go off in the bathroom.

Get Ready at Night

Morning workout success starts that night before. Make sure to have your workout clothes ready and set out so that it is the first thing you see when you wake up. Some people even sleep in their workout clothes to make it even easier to be motivated. It is also important to go to bed early so that waking up is not such a chore.

Wear Red

Need an excuse to go shopping? Add red fitness apparel to your list. The color red has been associated with increased excitement and energy levels. Plus, you just might find that red is your confident color that kicks your butt out the door each morning to run.

Pop a Mint

As soon as you turn off your alarm, pop a breath mint into your mouth. Of course, this is not just for vanity sake, though most people will be grateful. Instead, the peppermint flavor can help stimulate your alertness.

Have Something to Look Forward To

Since you are not looking forward to your workout in the morning, you have to find something to look forward to each morning. Perhaps it is your pumping playlist, which you are only allowed to listen to while you break a sweat. Maybe you listen to an audio book or use a thrilling exercise app. You could even make a delicious breakfast or smoothie your treat for accomplishing your morning workout.

Sticker Reward Chart

It may sound juvenile but start a sticker reward chart system for yourself. Once you get to a certain amount of stickers, then you are allowed to cash them in for things like a massage or mini-shopping trip. Just don’t allow your reward to be food, since that can have negative affects.

Once you get your morning workout done and out of the way, you will not regret it. You just need to motivate yourself long enough to where it becomes a habit.
