“I’ve always worked in the healthcare field, and I am now called to keep helping as many people as I can through chiropractic care,” he says. “I work with patients from all walks of life, so it’s a never-ending phase of learning while treating various body types. I am always learning and I always strive to improve.”

Dr. J, as his patients sometimes call him, grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. “It helped shape the chiropractor I am today,” he says. “Fifteen years of experience as a massage therapist helped me with my assessment skills in addressing areas of muscle and joint tightness.”

His partner, Amy, works in commercial tax accounting and the couple has a rescue dog named Dart. “He was named for ‘Dartanian’ from the series ‘Stranger Things’ because he’s my little monster,” Dr. J says. “My other dog is a Pomeranian named Remy.”

He loves taking his dogs to the park, as well as biking and finding new food spots.

The coolest experience of his life was a trip to the Philippines in 2011 where he served youth in rural areas through a non-profit organization. “We brought books for new libraries, hygiene supplies, and clothing,” he says. “We also taught children dances ranging from modern to Tahitian styles.The trip forced me to step out of my comfort zone, and I was humbled by the fact that these youth appreciated anything we gave or taught them.”

Dr. J’s favorite book is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. “It taught me simple lessons to live by to better myself and others around me,” he says. “One of the agreements is ‘Don't take anything personally.’ What others say and do is a projection of their own reality and their own dream; nothing others do is because of you.”

If he wrote an autobiography, Dr. J would entitle it How Dr. Jopanda Changed Lives Through Chiropractic. “I feel a great responsibility to use chiropractic as a tool to change lives for the better,” he says.

The best life hack he ever received was from a high school teacher who shared the movie “Dead Poets Society” with students. “The quote ‘Carpe Diem’ was an eye-opener, teaching us to take advantage of the life that is given to us,” he says.

If she needed any additional confirmation, it came early in her career. “I had just started my journey at The Joint and this patient walks in bent forward, limping, in moderate to severe pain,” she recalls. “I have to admit to being nervous on the inside, but I told myself, ‘You got this!’ So I examined him and proceeded to treat him. I had him stand up and he was still hurting. So then I had him lie supine on the table with his knees bent, and used the drop piece on his pelvis, performed distraction to his legs, and he stood up straight and walked out of my clinic without limping.”
