Dr. Patrick Clifford joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2024 when he became part of the team at the Midtown clinic, where he does the rewarding work of helping people as their local healthcare provider.
“The best thing about chiropractic is its ability to take someone who is in debilitating pain and restore them back to feeling and moving at a level that matches their potential,” he says. “In essence, I am taking their pain and dysfunction away and replacing it with resilience, education, and a new outlook on how to keep dysfunction at bay.”
Dr. Clifford enjoys working in a field where no two days are the same. “Every day presents new opportunities and chances for growth, not just for patients, but for myself as well,” he says. “I truly value the chance to better myself and my patients’ lives.”
A native of Grand Prairie, when he was asked as a child what he wanted to be when he grew up, his answer was “either a professional baseball player or a doctor,” he says. “I had the opportunity to play professional baseball until COVID-19 struck the world. It was then that I decided to step away from baseball and begin my chiropractic journey.”
Dr. Clifford has an American shorthair cat named Ellie. “I saved her from my apartment complex when I was living in Pasadena attending college,” he says. “She followed me up three flights of stairs and I adopted her on the spot. Her favorite thing is to go on the patio at night and chase the laser pointer. She has a tremendous personality and she makes it a point to treat everyone she meets with an open heart and happiness.”
In his spare time he loves to play golf. “I am also a disc golfer and I enjoy going for runs and hitting the gym,” he says. “When not working, I am a baseball coach. I love working with baseball players to unlock their potential and to give back to the game in the same way the coaches helped me along my journey.”
Dr. Clifford earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark. He majored in health science with a double minor in physical education and business administration. He earned a Doctorate at Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena.
“I was playing semi-professional baseball when the pandemic occurred and at the same time I was working with a baseball chiropractor,” he says. “It was a terrible time for the world and choosing to pursue chiropractic allowed me to devote the same passion I had for baseball toward chiropractic.”
Dr. Clifford had a memorable moment during his first month as an intern. “I saw a patient who could barely stand up come into the clinic and after 30 minutes he walked out on his own with a full smile on his face,” he says.
In case you didn’t know
One thing that he always has stocked in his kitchen is espresso and coffee pods. He also keeps ribeye steak on hand due to its “rich nutrients and fantastic flavor.”
If he could plan the ideal dinner party including four famous guests, Dr. Clifford would invite Russell Crowe, Johnny Depp, Babe Ruth, and Canadian musician Geddy Lee.
“One of the greatest moments I’ve experienced was hitting a walk-off home run in college when we were playing University of Texas at Dallas,” he says. “It was the bottom of the ninth, two runners on, and I hit the ball over the right field fence while the entire stadium erupted in celebration.”
Dr. Clifford’s favorite book is Papi: My Story, a memoir by David Ortiz. “He was my favorite baseball player growing up,” he says. “The book describes his journey through challenges and obstacles to play professional baseball. It’s a story about perseverance against the odds and believing in yourself and your potential.”
If Dr. Clifford penned an autobiography, the title would be A Baseball Player Who Chose to Become a Chiropractor.
The best advice he ever received was from graduate school professor Dr. Larry Wyatt, DC: “If you find something that you love to do, you will never work a day in your life.”
Dr. Clifford’s best advice for others is: “When you trust the process and keep your goal in mind, there’s nothing that can stop you. Work hard, do things the right way, and in the end you will thank yourself for pushing through any challenge and finding a way to continue growing. Don’t ever stop pursuing personal growth.
