Family Fitness: How to Stay Moving Together

Family comes first. Most of us can agree on that. When it comes to keeping ourselves and our families healthy, it can be hard to juggle it all. While we may just want to hit the gym, it can be more difficult to do that with your kids in tow. To set a good example and keep your entire family in good health, check out these tips for keeping the whole family moving together.

Go for Walks

Walks are a very simple way to keep the whole family moving. This is something that everyone can do, from any babies in the family all the way to the grandparents. You can do this at the park, around the block, or anywhere that the mood strikes. It’s a great low impact, easy cardio way to get moving and spend some quality time together.

Play Games

Who doesn’t like a good game? When it comes to your kids, adding games to the daily routine can keep it fun and interesting. Go outside and play soccer, baseball, football, or any other sport that strikes your fancy. If your family is the video game kind, buy the active ones. Even games like Twister, Charades, and tag can be fun and active for the whole family. If you keep it lgiht and fun, your kids are more likely to stick with it for the long haul.

Go Somewhere New

Want to really spark your kid’s interest? Go somewhere new and fun! Places like trampoline parks, bounce houses, and water parks can provide a whole lot of fun without the stress attached to working out. If you want this to really work, try and choose places that everyone can enjoy instead of places that are too young or too old for any one family member.

Make it a Contest

In my family, if you make it a contest then everyone will do it. We’re super competitive! If you can’t get your kids moving any other way, give this a try. See who can walk the most steps in a week or who can do the most push-ups or etc. Whatever the contest, it doesn’t really matter. Your kids will enjoy the competitive spirit and you’ll all be working out in the meantime.

Believe it or not, you can have a family and still stay in shape. It can be difficult, but it can certainly be done. Use any of these tips to get your family moving and to set a great example of health and fitness for the future.
