3 Ways to Intensify Your Workout
You religiously workout. You run your miles, lift your weights, or attend your regular exercise class. While this is a good habit to keep, you might still look down at your body and wonder why it’s not making any changes. When our bodies get accustomed to a particular workout, it can plateau. When this happens, it is important to find new ways to intensify your workout. If you are ready to see some new healthy changes to your body, take a look at these easy ways to add some intensity to your workout routine.
Add More Weight or Resistance
If you already lift, add some reps or up your weight. If you don’t already lift, go ahead and mix it into your regular workout. Adding weights can make a big difference in the intensity of your workout. Even just a little bit of weight makes each move much more difficult. If you are not keen on weights, you can also try other forms of resistance such as resistance bands or weighted exercise balls. Even adding resistance in the form of water can help to challenge the body in a new way.
Add Some Speed
Another great way to intensify a workout is to speed it up. If you are a runner, add some sprints. If you are a walker, add some jogging. You can also try adding an incline or other more difficult terrain. Speeding up will force your muscles to fire faster, burning more calories and cutting into your fat reserves. Even a few bursts of energy that weren’t there previously will do your body and your workout a lot of good.
Add Friends to the Mix
There is nothing like adding other people to the mix to really get you moving. When we work out in groups, we tend to work harder. It is a natural reaction. Without even thinking about it, you’ll move more quickly, push a little harder, and go a little further. If you don’t have a friend that is interested in joining you, join a class for the same effect.
When you hit a workout plateau, it is definitely time to change it up and up the intensity. Doing so will have your mind challenged and will get your body changing for the better before you know it. Use these tips to add some challenge and intensity to your exercise routine and to get you motivated all over again.
