Outdoor Exercises for Summer Fun

Summer is the time to get outside and enjoy the sun! After all, the sun and the outdoors are great for the mind and body. A great way to do that is to move your workout from the gym to the great outdoors. If you would like to change up your workout to enjoy the summer time fun, check out these great exercises that can be done outside.

Swimming

An all time favorite for summertime, swimming can give you a great workout. Not only is it challenging for the lungs, but it can also give your muscles a great all over body workout. The key to burning calories with this exercise is to actually swim. Noodling, floating, or splashing around may make you tired, but it won’t be an efficient workout.

Hiking

If you like to run or walk for your workouts, then hiking can be a great outdoor option. When you hike, you can run or walk, all while on a challenging trail. If you’re up for a challenge, choose a more difficult terrain. If you are a beginner, go for flat and easy terrain. This is a great workout that can be done with friends and can be catered to any and every fitness level.

Biking

Riding a bike can really be a lot of fun, and in all honesty, doing this one outside instead of on a stationary bike increases the fun by quite a bit. While a stationary bike can be monotonous and boring, a bike outside takes you through different terrain, along different streets, and lets you feel the wind in your hair. It’s an excellent way to burn massive calories (up to 800 an hour!), and have a lot of fun all at the same time.

Yoga

This is not a specifically outdoor activity, but many people find practicing this in the great outdoors a rewarding treat. Yoga is meant to bring balance, strength, and inner soul searching. All of these are brought tenfold when done outside. Those that enjoy this activity outdoors find the most beneficial time is the early morning, when the sun is not all the way up and the air still holds a tiny bit of coolness.

While almost any exercise can be done outdoors, these are great options for enjoying the sun while still getting in a great workout. Use your time this summer wisely. Get outside, get in some fitness, and feel and look better to boot.
