Meet The Doctors

Dr. Anthony Nguyen D.C. is a Chiropractor at Westheimer at Gessner

Dr. Anthony Nguyen found his passion in chiropractic after recovering from a low back injury playing football. He is from Bay City and has lived all over Texas such as San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

Dr. Nguyen earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2018 from Parker University along with his Bachelors in Anatomy and Bachelors in Health and Wellness. Prior to that, he studied at The University of Texas at Austin during his undergraduate program where he joined a fraternity called Omega Phi Gamma.

After graduation he moved back to Houston and received most of his training from his cousin who owns a personal injury clinic. After a year, he extended his experience working with multiple clinics such as personal injury, major medical, worker’s compensation, rehabilitation, and wellness.

Dr. Nguyen enjoys traveling, snowboarding, working out, gaming, and being a foodie. He spends his extra time hanging out with family and friends.

Later, Dr. Nguyen made one of the best decisions and accepted a career at The Joint Chiropractic. He is psyched to be improving the lives of patients and showing off his soft tissue skills alongside his phenomenal bedside manners

Dr. Jada L. Riley became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022 when she began serving residents in the Houston area, where she continues doing the work she finds so gratifying.

“The best thing about working in the chiropractic field is that I get to help people get out of pain and back to doing their favorite activities,” she says. “The other thing I love is showing patients that females can be chiropractors and excel in the field.”

Dr. Riley was born and raised in Austin, and enjoys spending her spare time on board games, and going out with friends.

She received her doctorate in chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena after attending Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. She played four years of college basketball and earned a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine and rehabilitation.

“I honestly didn’t fully know chiropractic was my calling until after I had already started chiropractic school,” Dr. Riley says. “I had dealt with headaches daily for as long as I could remember -- they were just something I learned to deal with every day. It wasn’t until I started getting treated in the student clinic during my first trimester of chiropractic school that they told me I didn’t, or shouldn’t, have to endure headaches every day. I clearly remember my excitement along with my interns when I went through my first day without a headache.”

She says some of her most satisfying moments as a chiropractor occur when a patient arrives in back pain and the cause of it is rib-related. “I love seeing the relief on their face after I find and adjust the rib to ease their back pain,” she says.

In Case You Didn’t Know

If Dr. Riley could meet any people from history for her ideal dinner party, she would include Jesus, Tori Kelly, and Sarah Jakes Roberts. “I can only imagine what it would feel like to be in the presence of Jesus,” she says. “And Tori Kelly is my favorite musical artist and I’m slightly obsessed with her and her music. Sarah Jakes Roberts is one of my favorite preachers.” She would also include her sister “because there isn’t anyone else in my life I’d rather share that experience with.”

She always keeps something salty and something sweet in her kitchen. “For snacking, I must have at least one of each,” she says.

The coolest experience was reaching the NAIA Final Four during her senior season of college. They had been eliminated in the first round the previous three seasons. “My coach had said before my senior year that she didn’t know who was going to be a leader on our team, but I took that kind of personally,” Dr. Riley says. “On top of that, my scholarship got cut, and I felt super deflated from it. I decided I was going to ‘show her,’ so I worked super hard over the summer before my senior year and when I got back to campus, my coach took notice. I started every game, we reached the national semifinals, and the coach increased my scholarship twice in the middle of the season. I chose to let her statements motivate me and push me to work harder rather than accept them.”

Dr. Viet Tran joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2022 when he became part of the team at the Westheimer at Gessner clinic, where he does the rewarding work of helping Houston residents as their local healthcare provider.

“The thing I like most about being a chiropractor is helping patients with my bare hands without any medications involved,” he says. “Chiropractic helps the body heal itself, and that’s very rewarding.”

Raised in the Houston area, he and his wife -- who is also in the medical field working at Texas Children’s Hospital -- have two sons. Dr. Tran enjoys teaching them to swim and play basketball, and build unique structures with Lego bricks. He uses gardening and landscaping to help him relax. He also enjoys playing basketball, soccer, tennis, and swimming. “Sports help keep me in shape and help the body stay active,” he says.

He earned his doctorate at Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena after attending University of Texas.

“I hurt my back playing tennis when I was a young teenager and got adjusted by a chiropractor,” he says of the defining moment when he chose a chiropractic career. “It helped relieve my pain instantly. I could not believe that just an adjustment could really alleviate my low back pain. This is when I realized that you can treat an ailment with only your bare hands, which was very intriguing.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Tran says the staple he always keeps stocked in his pantry is rice and water. “These are essential items in case of a disaster or emergency encounter,” he says.

If he could bring together any four people from history for his ideal dinner party, he would include Buddha (“for the teaching of oneness, enlightenment, and compassion”), Sir Isaac Newton (“for sharing the law of gravity”), Hippocrates (“to enlighten us with modern medicine”), and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (“who could entertain us with his beautiful music”).

He says the greatest experience of his life was escaping communist Vietnam in 1977 with his family. “We came to the U.S.A. with nothing except one pair of clothes,” he says. “We realized that we were so blessed to arrive in this country, which allowed us to fulfill our dreams and it provided us with a new life and opportunity. This gives me an outlook of how precious life could be and the freedom we have received.”
