Eat Fish as Part of a Healthy Diet

By Tom Herrin

Doing something to help improve a diet is one of those things that may be all over the place.  Without a doubt, there are lots of things that may provide support for people's health.  Being in tune with the body and general health needs can pay off.  Combining knowledge with wisdom and putting that with new information may be a good way to start.  One of the easiest ways to improve almost any diet is to add more fish.  It is widely known for the fact that it does not have many of the bad things that so many other sources of protein have.  Adding it to a diet is simple and relatively inexpensive.

It May Help Cut the Risk of Heart Disease

Heart disease has been a growing problem for people in this country for several years.  Avoiding it is a challenge.  Diet and exercise can usually be a good way to address the issue.  Eating fish may be one of the best ways to build a fortification against it.  A study of more than 40,000 men who ate fish at least once per week had some interesting results.  It seems that participants had a 15 percent reduction in their risk of heart disease.  Other studies have indicated that eating fish regularly may decrease heart attacks, stroke, and death from heart disease.  Adding fish to the diet may be simple way to do a little more to help support health in this respect.

It Can Supply Vitamin D

Vitamins are essential for everyone.  When people are short on some of them, it may show up in various health issues.  It is believed that more than 40 percent of adults are deficient in Vitamin D.  One of the problems associated with this is thought to be sleep issues.  Fish may be one of the few foods that can actually supply this vitamin.  Most people have to rely on the sun for it, but if they are not able to get enough sun, fish may be the way to get it.

It May Be a Hit with Kids

I have not seen many kids who don't enjoy fish sticks.  They rarely have any kind of a fishy taste.  Many kinds of fish, if prepared right, have little or no fishy taste at all.  Our family enjoys many kinds of fish.  I really like salmon or tuna for a light lunch.  Find some kind that your family enjoys and make it a more regular part of your diet for better health.
