A Chair Could Be the Base for Your Workout

By Tom Herrin

Exercising is critical to just about everyone's health.  It is recommended for all kinds of heath issues.  In today's work world, getting that exercise is a lot more difficult.  The days when people get a fair amount of exercise in their daily activities are fast becoming a thing of the past.  For those who sit for most of their day, exercising while doing that sitting may be a good option.  It can be more time efficient than trying to make time for that workout before or after work.  It may also help to provide a boost of energy at those times when so many feel as if it takes all of their effort to stay awake and alert.

Using a Little Yoga May Be Productive

One of the keys to getting a good workout while sitting is to make it short and simple.  The namaste gesture is one that just about everyone recognizes.  It is done by sitting up straight and bringing the palms around in front of the chest.  Pressing the hands together so that the muscles become tense and contract can work those muscles.  Holding for about 20 seconds should be good.  Feeling the muscles contract can provide a feeling of progress.

Working the Legs Can Be Easy

Many people sit with their legs crossed when they relax.  They can take advantage of this position by extending the legs while they are crossed.  Raising them as high as possible and pressing down with the top leg can create the resistance needed for the work.  Holding this for 20 to 30 seconds may be plenty.  Switching legs and working the other one in the same way can complete the workout.

Take Charge of Your Own Program

When you design your workout routine, no one knows better than you just what muscles you want to work.  Once you have identified those you want to work, there are plenty of ways to do the workout.  Don't forget that it is still important to do some other kinds of activity as well, but exercising while you are sitting can be an effective way maintain or even build some strength.  Find the best routine for you and put it to work for better health.  You may be well pleased with the kind of progress you can make with this kind of exercise.  You may notice a difference in as few as a couple of weeks of doing it steady.
