Dr. Mike Shaw has been with The Joint Chiropractic since 2016 and is proud to be part of the clinics in Killeen and Temple. A 1995 graduate of Texas A&M with a BS degree in exercise physiology, he received his doctorate in chiropractic from Parker University in 2001.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is the opportunity I have to change lives every day,” Dr. Mike says. “It’s extremely gratifying to see continued personal growth among my patients.”
Dr. Mike worked previously in Dallas and Austin after being raised in New Braunfels.
In his spare time, he enjoys fitness, sleeping, spending time at the beach, and attending concerts.
He says he knew chiropractic would be his calling “when I realized how powerful chiropractic was. It resolved a neck pain I had been suffering with for years.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Mike says the one thing he always has handy in his refrigerator is That Green Sauce from H-E-B, because it can be used on just about anything.
Given the opportunity to create a dinner party with anyone from history, he would like to bring together comedians from the glory days of SNL. “I would love to get Steve Martin, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and John Belushi together and just sit back and listen to old Saturday Night Live stories,” he says.
The coolest thing Dr. Mike has done, he says, was join the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program. “It was a life-changing experience,” he says.
Dr. Bob Pompella became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s family of healthcare professionals in 2019. A graduate of Central Arkansas who got his degree in science, Dr. Bob -- he also goes by Dr. B -- received his doctorate of chiropractic from Parker University.
“The best thing about being in chiropractic is getting a chance to help those people who were told that they were going to have to live with pain or be on medicine for the rest of their lives, and seeing them improve under consistent care,” Dr. Bob says.
“The other thing I like is being able to see and teach kids about health from an early age and knowing that they will be able to grow up and not go through the things that a lot of us adults have gone through.”
A product of Texarkana, Dr. Bob worked previously in Little Rock, Ark., and Round Rock, before settling in Temple.
In his spare time, he enjoys camping, fishing, touring breweries, attending church activities, and playing with his three dogs.
“My dad worked for a chiropractor for two-plus years, and while he worked there, the doctor just poured chiropractic into me,” Dr. Bob says. “He took me to seminars and taught me about the philosophy and how the body worked. I told my mom, at 11 years of age, that I wanted to be a pediatrician, and over the course of those two years my dad worked in the office, I saw people coming in on walkers and canes and leaving without them. I heard hundreds of testimonies of people getting off medication or getting relief from headaches. I decided my sophomore year of college that I wanted to go the route of chiropractic.”
He is glad that was the course his life took. Dr. Bob loves working in Temple. “The best part of working for this particular franchise of The Joint is the people I get to work with,” he says. “The ladies at the front became like sisters to me in a very short time, and the doctors are phenomenal. If I ever have a question about a particular situation or patient, the other doctors are extremely helpful at giving advice or showing me what they would do in that situation.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Bob says the one thing he always keeps handy is Ranch dressing.
If he could bring together any four people from history for a dream dinner party, Dr. Bob says he would like to sit down with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., basketball player LeBron James, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club founder Sam Walton, and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
“I’d like to pick Dr. King’s brain and learn where he got the courage to stand up for what he believed in when others wouldn’t,” Dr. Bob says. “LeBron is my favorite athlete and I feel like he’s just a good guy. I read Sam Walton’s autobiography and I loved his mindset when it came to business, but more importantly, I liked the way he treated people. Ellen is extremely funny and has a big heart towards people.”
The coolest thing Dr. Bob has ever done, he says, was go on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. “It was my first time outside the country and just opened my eyes up to how blessed we are to be here in America,” Dr. Bob says. “I actually got to spend my birthday there and went deep sea fishing, which is a big deal to me because I am terrified of the ocean since you can’t see what’s below you.”
Dr. Ed Collazzo joined The Joint Chiropractic family of local healthcare providers in 2018 when he joined Killeen and Temple clinics. He attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a focus on business before getting his doctorate of chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Mo.
“The thing I love about being in the chiropractic field is the opportunity that I have to treat people with my hands,” Dr. Collazzo says. “The other thing that is so gratifying to me is seeing the patient satisfaction after they’ve been treated.”
Dr. Collazzo worked from Georgetown to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex before settling in Killeen, which is where he was raised.
“I want to provide quality patient-centered healthcare to the greatest amount of patients that would benefit from my services,” he says.
In his spare time, Dr. Collazzo enjoys spending time with his wife and son, and their dog.
He knew chiropractic was his calling after his first adjustment and the difference he felt after the experience. It is a calling he doesn’t regret.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Collazzo says the one thing he always keeps handy in his refrigerator is flavored yogurt. “It satisfies my sweet tooth,” he says.
If he could bring together any four people -- or in this case, entities -- from history for the dinner party of his dreams, he says he would include “God to answer my questions, Stevie Ray Vaughan to teach me guitar lessons, Claude Monet to teach me how to paint, and Bear Grylls to teach me wilderness survival skills.”
As for the coolest thing he’s ever done, he says it was “watching my son being born because he’s my pride and joy.”
Dr. Brad Price joined The Joint Chiropractic team in 2017 and splits his time between the Killeen and Temple clinic locations. A graduate of University of Texas, where he studied kinesiology and marketing, Dr. Price received his doctorate of chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College.
“The thing I love most about being in this field is helping people feel better, and the other thing is getting to study interesting topics,” he says.
A product of central Texas, Dr. Price worked previously in Austin.
In his spare time, he enjoys exercising, traveling, hunting, and hanging out with his dog, a boxer named Chloe. Like most others, he also likes Texas football.
He knew chiropractic was his calling after first-hand experience; he suffered through herniated discs in his back but got relief after being treated by a chiropractor.
The great thing about working at The Joint is that Dr. Price gets to treat all types of people, including those he enjoys treating the most: “I love serving the men and women who help protect our country,” he says.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Price says the one thing he always keeps in his refrigerator is milk. “It’s proof that life is good,” he says.
As for the people from history he would invite to his ideal dinner party, he would like to sit down with athletes Tom Brady and Michael Jordan, President Ronald Reagan and Texas senator Ted Cruz.
Dr. Price says the coolest thing he ever did was winning the national football championship, while on staff at Louisiana State, a 38-24 victory over Ohio State at the Superdome in New Orleans in January 2008. Dr. Price was the assistant strength coach for LSU. “Very few people in this country will ever be a part of a national championship team,” he says.
