Restoring Balance in Your Life

By Donna Stark

How are you living your life? Are you fully present and enjoying as many moments as you can, or are you going from one day to the next, not really living at all? Finding yourself so drained by the day's end and having nothing left to give is a common problem for so many people, but it's a problem that comes with a simple fix ... finding some balance in your life.

Finding Your Balance

So how can you find balance when you are literally dripped dry and completely exhausted by the end of each day? Has balance become such a strange phenomenon that it is no longer a tangible goal? It certainly may feel like it, but it doesn't have to be that way at all! With some simple lifestyle changes, you and balance may actually become the best of friends. Take a look at the following suggestions.

  • Let yourself rest - How many days this week have you pushed yourself to the limit, even when your body was screaming for some rest? Well, it's screaming for a reason and it is up to you to push the pause button in your life. Take a nap, leave the office and go for a walk, or to plan on going to bed at an earlier hour. If you allow yourself to spiral into burnout mode, you certainly won't have the energy to do anything else.
  • Disconnect - Do you feel anxious if your phone or laptop isn't near you? If your busy lifestyle has created an unhealthy urge to be connected to everyone else, at all times, then you may want to consider taking a break from technology. On one hand, it can reduce a lot of the stress you are experiencing while on the other hand, it will allow you to become more present during those special moments throughout your days.
  • Plan your days - Make a to-do list. Make a chart. Just make something that will get you to sit down and plan your days. The amount of detail you put down will depend on your personality, but if you stay on track with this intentional process, there is a great chance you can pencil in some extra balance to your days!

A Balancing Act

It is highly unlikely that your life will slow down any time soon, so try to be as intentional as you can with finding some balance. After all, you have a lot of people counting on you to do so and aren't you ready to actually live your life as well?
