Start Your Year on a Healthy Track
By Brandi Goodman
The holidays are often to blame for weight gain, stress, and poor eating habits. As the new year arrives, many people are keen to move on from the holidays and start off on a healthier track. You can start your new year this way too by setting some achievable goals.
Choose Whole Foods Instead of Processed Choices
One way to change your health drastically is to choose whole foods. Skip the processed choices and opt for fruits, vegetables, whole grain breads, and nuts that provide real nutrients. You don't have to give up all your favorites. Just be sure you're choosing whole foods more often than not each day.
You need to find a way to move often. You shouldn't be sitting for hours at a time. This can weaken your lower body especially. Get up and move as often as you can so you can keep your body flexible and feeling well. You might try taking the stairs instead of the elevator or biking or walking to work when it's nice out.
Choose Enjoyable Fitness Options
It isn't likely that you'll stick with a fitness routine if you don't enjoy it. The more you find yourself dreading going to class or getting in the gym the more you'll end up skipping it altogether and finding excuses not to go. Choose enjoyable fitness options that actually keep you motivated to continue. If you're in a fitness class you love, for example, you're more likely to continue going each week.
Get Outside Often
Staying indoors all the time can quickly lead to poor mental health. You need to get outdoors and soak up the sun. Feel the fresh air on your face. Look at all the beauty around you. It can provide you with some Vitamin D while also enhancing your mood. You're usually more likely to get some exercise when you're outside as well.
Find Natural Products
It's hard to say just how much the products we use influence our health. Many household cleaners and beauty products contain toxic chemicals that may be poisoning our bodies and the air we breathe. Find natural products that are safe for the environment and yourself. You may just notice feelings of breathing better or not getting sick as often.
Break the unhealthy patterns you've been following and try some changes in your life. It will help you to get your new year off to a healthy start and continue that trend as the months commence. Lots of small changes can add up to big rewards.
