Early Warning Signs You Need a Chiropractor!

By Sara Butler

Many people see a chiropractor because they're in pain. Seeing a chiropractor at this stage is absolutely something you should do, but it's important to understand that pain isn't the first symptom of the joint restriction or dysfunction that has brought you in to see them. Here are a few of the early warning signs the chiropractor wants you to be aware of so you can seek out chiropractic care from the start.

Warning Sign No. 1: Muscle Tightness and Spasms

Your spine's main job is to protect your brain and spinal cord -- the central nervous system. If you think about your central nervous systems as an electrical system, then your spine is the circuit breaker -- a very flexible circuit breaker. All the circuits need to be clear in order for your body to function as it should. If there's nerve interference, then your body often compensates for it -- and that compensation usually rears its ugly head as muscle tightness or muscle spasms.

When you experience tight muscles after activity, such as working in your garden, you normally recover in a few days. If your tightness or muscle spasms last more than that, then it's time to talk to the chiropractors at The Joint to make sure there's not something more serious going on underneath.

Warning Sign No. 2: Weakness

Weakness in a limb may be a serious sign of an underlying issue. It may be a problem with the nerve signals from your spine to your limb, though this is usually accompanied by issues with grip strength in your hands if your arms are impacted or problems doing simple things involving your legs, such as getting in and out of your car. It may even show up as generalized fatigue. If you notice any signs of weakness, then make sure to get to The Joint Chiropractic to discuss it with the chiropractor as soon as you can.

Warning Sign No. 3: Pain

Finally, if you experience pain, that's a red flag that you need a chiropractor! Think of it as the engine light on your car or a fire alarm in a building -- it's time. Remember, don't think you can take over-the-counter medication to deal with the pain; you're only covering up the symptoms. When pain strikes, get to the chiropractor. Chances are you're dealing with something that's been brewing under the surface for a while.
