Common Skincare Mistakes

Everyone wants clear, beautiful, glowing skin. It’s a pretty common desire. While some people are simply blessed with naturally perfect skin, others have to really work hard to get that sun-kissed glow. For many people, it’s not what you’re lacking, but rather what you’re doing that is causing your skin to rebel. For clear skin, check out these often used practices that are actually harming your skin.

Avoiding Moisturizer

Many people moisturize the skin on their bodies, but skip moisturizing the face. This is because, at first, moisturizer on the face can feel oily or slick, leading many to believe that the extra shine will lead to breakouts. In fact, the opposite is happening. When you strip your face of natural oils, which are a necessary part of healthy skin, your body tries to make up for the loss, leading to overproduction. Replenishing the oils with a healthy moisturizer can keep the body from going into overproduction mode, which is what really leads to breakouts for a lot of people.

Skipping the Sunscreen

Since tans make the majority of people feel a lot better, it can be tempting to skip the sunscreen. Protecting your face from UV rays is, however, imperative to your skin’s health. Without protection, you’ll likely wind up with age spots, dry skin, and premature wrinkles. After moisturizing and before the make-up, apply a thin layer of sunscreen to protect your face from the sun.

Touching Your Face

Sometimes it’s hard not to touch your face, but excessive touching can lead to too much oil and dirt residue. Instead, try to keep your hands away from the face. It can also be helpful to keep the hair pulled back away from the face since hair can leave oil residue as well.

Skipping a Wash

At the end of the day, it can take a lot of effort just to pour yourself into bed. So many people skip this end of the day wash just out of pure exhaustion. Sleeping with make-up on, or simply without washing off the accumulated dirt of the day, means that your pores get filled with residue that then leads to breakouts. For the best skin, wash once in the morning and once at night, and do your best not to skip a step.

Clear, beautiful skin is definitely possible. Take a good look at your skin care routine to determine how you can get the best skin possible. With some preparation and a good routine, anyone can love the skin they’re in.
