Exercise Like a Kid Again!

For adults, exercise usually means working out in the gym, taking a fitness class, lifting weights, or walking around the block. But for children, it means playing a sport, participating in gym class, riding a bike, or chasing each other on the playground ... which kind of makes us adults want to be kids again, doesn't it? So, why don't we? Why don't we hang out with our children more and engage in their kind of workouts? It could be a lot of fun and if there is ever a time to do so, the fall season is it. Take a look at some family-friendly, childlike-fun ways that everyone can exercise together with.

Corn Mazes

Corn mazes are all the rage in the fall and getting lost in one is a fun way to exercise. How does it count as exercise, you ask? Well, if you choose your corn maze wisely, and you don't ask for help with getting out, you could spend a good portion of your day wandering through it. It makes for a great afternoon walk and you know your children will be busy running back as forth as they change their minds over and over again about which direction to go.

Photo Scavenger Hunt

Who doesn't love a good scavenger hunt, especially when nature is involved? Divide your family into teams and hand each one a list of things they need to find. But instead of collecting the individual items in a bag, or crossing them off a list, have each team take a picture of them. You can also add some extra fitness challenges into the hunt by requesting a picture of someone being physically active. Set a timer to get everyone's juices flowing and ring the bell! On your mark, get set, go!

Canoeing/Kayaking

They may not seem like fall activities but canoeing and kayaking during this time of year is actually quite the treat! Both are wonderful ways to get outside in nature and to stay physically active, but it's the view that steals the show, especially when the colors of the leaves reflect off the water. Do this earlier in the season so that you can still take advantage of the warm sun during the day and make sure your children are doing their fair share of the rowing! After all, this is exercise for the entire family, not just mom and dad.

Now that the temperatures have cooled down, there is no reason to avoid being outdoors. Physical activity is one of the best ways to keep everyone in the family healthy and being out in nature will only enhance that! So, go ahead. Dress in layers, grab your family, and act like a kid again!
