Cook Carefully to Avoid Aches Using Chiropractic Tips

By Brandi Swieter

Cooking a large meal can be hard on the body, particularly if people don’t exercise caution when doing so. Many may not realize just how tough cooking can be, leading to aches and pain throughout the back, shoulders, and neck, in particular. By following some chiropractic tips and cooking carefully, anyone attempting to make a meal can avoid the aches associated with the task.

Wear Supportive Shoes

Many people cooking in their own homes stay barefoot or in socks when cooking. This practice should be avoided, as all of a person’s weight is placed on their feet. A pair of supportive shoes with decent arches and comfortable insoles would feel far better while making a meal. Anyone who has to stand in the kitchen for hours will benefit greatly from wearing shoes while doing so.

Use a Mat

Even with shoes, a thick mat would help in taking some of the pressure off of the feet and legs. The hard kitchen floor adds far too much pressure to the body. A rubber mat is the best solution. It absorbs some of the impact and keeps the feet and legs feeling pain-free. It should be used when cooking at the stovetop or even during dishwashing.

Watch Your Posture

Poor posture can put major strain on the body, including while cooking. People tend to stand at the counter or stove slouched over completing their tasks. When cutting, chopping, dicing, mixing, and stirring, not many individuals like to stand up straight. Many lean over or put all of their weight to one side. Standing up straight with proper posture will help to prevent pain and make the task go faster.

Have Ingredients and Supplies at the Ready

Looking at the recipe and pulling out just one ingredient at a time to add is a surefire way to develop an ache. Cooks should have all ingredients and supplies ready before they begin to ensure they can quickly grab what they need and avoid reaching and rushing during the process. It may be necessary to use a tool when gathering ingredients if some are located far into the shelves.

Even a task as simple as cooking can cause back pain and other body aches if people aren’t careful. Every cook should be sure to follow chiropractic tips if they want their time in the kitchen to go smoothly. Anyone still experiencing some discomfort should visit The Joint Chiropractic to seek guidance and possible relief.
