Enjoy a Vacation the Healthy Way
By Brandi Goodman
Most people go on vacation to get away from it all, but that doesn't mean you have to partake in unhealthy habits while you're there. You can still have a good time away while also being healthy and keeping your wellness in mind. You'll be less likely to get sick or experience unusual symptoms if you maintain your health.
Pack Healthy Foods and Snacks
Many hotels offer a mini fridge at the very least. This gives you the option for refrigeration so you can bring your own foods instead of eating take out. Pack healthy foods and snacks to take with you so you don't have to stop on the way or get unhealthy meals while you're there. It's important to bring bottles of water with you as well so you don't have to get stuck drinking water that may be unsafe.
Choose Healthy Meal Options
If you don't have the refrigeration available or you simply want to go out to eat, just be sure you're looking for healthy meal options. That burger and fries may taste great but it's bound to leave you feeling bloated and full if you indulge. Skip the bun and choose the sweet potato fries for a healthier alternative or go for something else entirely.
Get in Some Exercise
It may feel good for a while to lay around your hotel room all day without a care in the world. Eventually, though, your body will be feeling the effects of that. You'll start to get sore and experience tense muscles from failing to move as needed. You need exercise to keep your body strong and flexible. Many hotel rooms offer a fitness center where you can work out when you want. Even without a special space, you can do a few moves right in your room that will keep your body limber. A swim in the pool or a walk around town seeing the sights counts as well.
Get Enough Sleep
Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you have to stay up late. You still want to follow a good sleep routine that will leave you feeling well-rested. It can be challenging to sleep on a bed that isn't yours so bring a few things that will help. Wear an eye mask to block out the light. Use a sound machine to drown out the noise of others staying nearby. Bring your own pillow. There's lots of ways you can make sure you get a better night's rest on vacation.
Your health shouldn't fall to the wayside just because you're on vacation. Always do what you can to maintain your well-being, both physically and mentally. You can still enjoy your vacation time while keeping your mind and body strong.
