Tidy Up to Improve Mental Health
By Brandi Goodman
Clutter can make you feel chaotic. It can be extremely overwhelming and have you feeling as though your mind -- and your life-- is in disarray. This is extremely damaging to your mental health. If you hope to improve your mental well-being, you need to tidy up.
More Mess Means More Stress
The more of a mess your house becomes, the more stressed you're going to feel. When you wake up to see clutter all around you, you start your day in a stressed state. You may even find yourself thinking about how messy your house has become as you attempt to work or tackle errands. This can cause you to feel even more overwhelmed about the situation. Clean up your mess and wake up in a safe and sanitary space for a stress-free environment.
A Scattered House Makes a Scattered Brain
If your home is scattered with piles of junk here and stacked boxes there, it's going to harm your mind. You're more likely to feel scatterbrained and have a hard time concentrating if that is the way your house looks and feels to you daily. Tidy up and get organized and it will make it easier to concentrate on other things you have to accomplish.
Disarray Denotes Depression
When your house is in disarray and you have let it become completely cluttered from wall to wall, you're more likely to feel depressed. It can be hard to be in good spirits when all you see is chaos around you. You may realize that you need to clean but it can be difficult to start when there's so much to do. You just fall deeper into your depression knowing your mess is getting worse yet there's nothing you can seem to do about it. You need to take the first step and get rid of just one thing to help yourself start on the path toward a cleaner home and mind.
An Embarrassing Environment
An unclean home isn't one you want to invite anyone over to see. You may find yourself more and more embarrassed the messier your house becomes. You want your home to be a warm and inviting space -- one that you feel proud to share with those you care about. Use the embarrassment you feel about your environment motivate you to clean up and make it more appealing to yourself and others.
Start the upcoming spring season with a major clean. You want to purge your home of everything unnecessary, add organization, and help to bring balance to your household. Your mental health will benefit greatly because of it.
