How to Get the Best Rest Possible & Fortify Your Health

How is your trip to the land of Nod every night? Are you getting the most out of your shut eye? Most people don’t get enough sleep – or enough good quality sleep! Your days can suffer as a result, so here’s what you need to know about sleep and how to get the best rest you can every night!

How to Judge Sleep Quality

Getting poor quality sleep isn’t just about feeling tired the next day. You may also find it more difficult to concentrate and get stressed out or irritated more easily than normal. You may also notice an increase in your appetite and a decrease in your sex drive. You could be more forgetful than what is normal for you and feel depressed more than you would otherwise.

A lot of people suffer from the symptoms of poor sleep but don’t really make the connection between those symptoms and the quality and quantity of their sleep every night.

How to Fall Asleep

If you have poor habits during the day or anxieties in your life it can make it hard to fall asleep at night when you finally lay your head down on the pillow. There are things you can do to help you fall asleep more quickly!

First of all, you need a routine. Just like with a child, a sleep routine is really important for an adult. You should strive to go to bed at the same time every single night, and set an alarm for the same time every morning. If you can, you should try to nap during the day too.

It is helpful to let more sun in your home or office during the day or spend more time outside in the sunshine. In the evenings, you should do some light and easy stretches or exercise as well. Take a warm bath or shower before bedtime and when you lie down, turn on a soft light and read for a bit before you turn in for the night.

The Perfect Environment

In order to make your sleep the best it can be you need to set yourself up for success! Make sure that noise is not an issue, because a quiet environment will help you to sleep better. You should also make sure the room is well ventilated and cool at night. The room should also be dark when the lights are off so that your brain knows it’s time to go to sleep.

A Few More Tips

Make sure you turn off the TV and other electronic devices well before bed time in order to get yourself prepared to shut down for the night. The stimulation from your smartphone or other backlit devices in bed can keep you awake because it signals your body that it should still be active.

You can try some relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation just before going to bed or while you are lying in bed too. This will help to center you and calm you so that sleep can come more easily.
