Shaping Up With Low Impact Cardio

We all know that we should exercise. We know that it comes with a million healthy benefits and that it will improve our quality of life. So, why don’t we all do it? Some fitness professionals claim that it is because the world of exercise basically breaks into 2 groups of people: the NO exercisers and the OVER exercisers.

It can be tough to find the right balance of exercise. What level of exercise can we sustain without giving up and still bring the healthy benefits? If you are struggling to find the balance, take a look at these low impact cardio exercises that can help you shape up without overdoing it.

Walking

Walking as a form of exercise does not get enough credit. A simple walk is a great way to work the muscles and the cardiovascular system. Don’t ever think that walking isn’t enough. To challenge yourself, change the tempo or location of your walk. If you are just starting out, go slowly on a flat surface. As you become more advanced, switch to a faster pace on an incline. There are plenty of ways to keep it interesting and challenging without making it too difficult.

Cycling

Riding a bike can be a lot of fun, which is why some people don’t realize what great exercise it really is. Cycling will burn major calories and specifically shape up your bottom half. And of course as previously mentioned, it can be a lot of fun. If you want, go for an indoor stationary bike and plop it in front of the tv. For a little more challenge and better scenery, buy a real bike and take your workout outside.

Swimming

Another great low impact exercise is swimming. Exercising in the water is difficult, as the water works as a natural resistance. It also, however, serves the very important purpose of making you feel lighter. That is why swimming is great exercise for those with joint troubles. The water will take the pressure off of the joints, making the workout experience more pleasurable. Find a pool, preferably indoors for year round use, and enjoy the many benefits of taking a dip.

Getting in shape doesn’t have to mean sweating your rear off or hours and hours in the gym. It is possible to reap the benefits of exercise while still enjoying it. Use these 3 low impact exercises to get in great shape without overdoing it.
