Spring Cleaning Checklist
By Donna Stark
Spring cleaning season is here and boy is it going to be fun! Just imagine all of the smiles that will appear on the faces of your children when you tell them their Saturday is booked and the only toys they get to play with are the brushes, buckets, and rags you will be giving them. I can see it now! It's going to be a great adventure, but where should you begin? A list of "responsibilities" for everyone in the family is a good starting point so grab those sheets of paper, pick up your pen, and let's get started! It's time to make your home healthier and safer for all!
Spring Cleaning Checklist
You may not see them, but there are plenty of germs and allergens floating in the air right now so it's a perfect time to deep clean your home. Use the following tips to get everyone moving with purpose and then tell your kids it will be over in no time! Take a look.
Don't drive yourself crazy by trying to disinfect every single surface in your home. Just focus on all of the shared or frequently touched items and surfaces. Things to focus on include phones, remotes, computer keyboards, video game controllers, doorknobs, handles, faucets, light switches, tables, and bathrooms. You get the idea. Be sure to follow the directions on the disinfectant spray or wipe to ensure the results you want to get.
So many allergens can continue to pollute your home if you don't know where to look for them. So pull off those big comforters and load them in the wash, give your curtains their yearly shower, clean your throw rugs and carpets, shake the dust out of those stuffed animals, and turn on that air purifier.
Now that you took care of the cleaning you can't see with a naked eye, it's time to focus on what you can see. Here is a checklist for every room in the house.
- Wipe down baseboards
- Clean the dust off of surfaces and ceiling fans
- Vacuum in-between and beneath couch cushions
- Pick up items from the floor
- Minimize clutter
- Clean oven
- Wipe down the refrigerator (inside and out, above and behind)
- Sanitize dishwasher and sink
- Wipe down the outside of cabinets
- Organize and clean the pantry
- Wash all pillows, mattress covers, and bedding
- Flip mattresses
- Clean windows
- Disinfect toilets, showers, bathtubs, and sinks
- Wash shower curtain
Clean Home, Better Health
Now that your home is clean, it's time to sit back, relax, and take pleasure in the final result. Your kids are happy to be done, you are happy the house is sparkling, and everyone's health is better protected. It's a good day in your household!
