The Fastest Way to Better Health May Be to Stay Put

By Tom Herrin

It is never good to confuse values.  It can get people in a lot of trouble as it may frequently send mixed signals.  With that said, the general idea for many people is if they want to do something to make their health better, they should just about always find some way to keep moving.  However, there are some options that may be done that do not involve so much movement. In fact, these options work on the basis of people staying in one place and using resistance to accomplish their goal.  Isometrics is a way of using resistance to work the muscles. When doing this, muscles are working against an immovable, or almost immovable, object. That may be a part of a structure or maybe themselves.  In the latter case, it could be done by pushing or pulling one hand against the other.

It May Help in Muscle Recruitment

Most of the time, when people work out, they only use a portion of the available muscles.  When they do isometrics, they are able to generate more involvement by more muscles. This is called muscle activation.  It is believed that through using isometrics, people may be able to use up to 95 percent of the available motor units. This means more efficiency and productivity of the muscles.

It May Help Build Strength

Muscle improvement works on the basis of contractions or tension.  When people contract their muscles for a longer period of time, they are able to move blood lower in the muscles and maintain it, with the chemicals that build muscles, within the walls of the muscles.  This enables them to increase in mass. With isometrics, muscles exert force against some object and it helps them to grow. It is believed that muscles may be increased in size as much as 5 percent per week doing this.

It May Be a Time-Saver

Doing isometrics can help to save time and space.  You can do them in a space no larger than that which you occupy.  You can save time because you can be effective in isolating the area in which you desire to build.  Spending only a few minutes at a time may help you to reach your desired goal. I have done them and been pleased with the results.  It may work for you as well.
