If a Treadmill Works, Use It

By Tom Herrin

If getting in shape, or staying that way, is someone's goal, then there are plenty of ways to do it without having to be exposed to the elements.  While many people prefer to be out and about as they exercise, there are other things to do that may be as effective.  Using a treadmill can be a great way to exercise and remain in the comfort of a home at the same time.  It is always enjoyable to be out in the sunshine and fresh air when the weather cooperates, but that isn't always the case.  Cold, heat, wind, and rain are just a few of the things that can make a workout session turn sour.  With a treadmill, these factors won't make a difference.

A Treadmill Can Help Protect the Heart

Whether they like it or not, people need to exercise to build their heart.  Too many sit around much of the day without being up and active at all.  This practice lends itself to forming some bad habits.  Using a treadmill may still require effort and work, but it can be pretty simple when people have it in their homes.  Running or walking on a treadmill can help to work the heart and respiratory system.  Any aerobic type of exercise can help to improve cardiovascular function.  Strengthening the heart can also lower blood pressure.

Using a Treadmill May Improve Bone Density

A common problem with many people today is osteoporosis or some other issue with the bones.  It appears that weight-bearing exercises can help to improve the density of bones.  Running is considered to be one of those activities.  A good thing about a treadmill is that most of them have enough cushion to help prevent, or reduce, impact injuries.  It won't require spending long periods of time on the treadmill to accomplish this.  All a person needs to do is dedicate a few good minutes each day on a regular basis.

Treadmills Are a Good Resource

I have become a fan of the treadmill.  Since I tend to be more active in the evening, I like to exercise at that time.  I may get on mine for 20 minutes after my evening meal and before I do anything else.  When I get off, I feel as if I had a fairly good workout.  These short sessions are pretty good for me, and I have begun to look forward to them.
