Why You Should Clear the Clutter in Your Life

By Brandi Goodman

Clutter can crowd our lives in many ways. Whether your mind is cluttered with thoughts that nag at your mind or your home is cluttered with junk that isn't necessary, it's easy to get stressed out and overwhelmed with it all. You should clear the clutter in your life if you hope to maintain both your physical and mental well-being.

It Slows You Down

Cluttered thoughts can make it hard to concentrate on important tasks. You might find yourself so focused on a number of small things that you can't see the big picture. When your room or car is cluttered with stuff it can also slow you down. You may have to spend more time looking for things you need, which pulls you away from the tasks you should be accomplishing. Speed up your life and make time for what's important by clearing away the clutter.

It Stresses You Out

Living amongst chaos is a recipe for stress. You'll be likely to feel extremely stressed out when you see how much stuff you have piling up around you. This can include your thoughts piling up as well. Stress can impact your sleep, harm your mental health, make you feel ill, and cause a lot of tension and pain in your body. Avoid clutter if you hope to keep stress like this at bay.

It Can Make You Sick

Sickness can set in because you're stressed, but it can also arise when you're surrounded by dust and dirt. If you have clutter around your home or car, chances are you aren't taking the necessary time to clean. Dust and dirt will build up quickly on all this stuff you're keeping and not taking care of appropriately. You might start to notice itchy eyes, a sore throat, and difficulty breathing as you inhale all of this dust into your lungs. Clear the clutter so you can avoid getting sick because of it.

Your health and well-being are important -- clutter does nothing for either. You need to clear the clutter in your home and in your head if you hope to avoid the problems that can come with it. Just take it one step at a time and clean what you can, when you can, to start making improvements. Taking on too much can be overwhelming and detrimental to your wellness in itself.
