5 Chiropractic Tips for the Holidays
By Brandi Goodman
The holiday season is here and many people have still not gotten started on their to-do list. That may be a good thing. You should only start your holiday to-do list after you've gotten some tips from the chiropractor to help ensure you stay well and able to handle the tasks. These five chiropractic tips should stay on your mind as you complete your duties throughout the season.
Wrapping
Gift-wrapping can cause serious pain in the back and neck if you aren't careful. Chiropractors suggest standing at a table to wrap so you aren't sitting hunched over on the floor. It's also wise to keep all of your necessities right beside you so you aren't reaching for them throughout the process. Your wrapping paper, tape, scissors, name tags, pen, and bows should all be ready to use.
Decorating
Holiday decorating is one of the biggest chores to accomplish. Whether you decorate inside, outside, or both, you need to wear a pair of sturdy tennis shoes that will prevent you from slipping. Also be sure to have someone with you to help. This is especially important if you're getting up on a ladder. You want to have another person nearby should anything go wrong. Avoid reaching too far and overextending yourself so you don't pull a muscle.
Cooking
Lots of people opt to spend their holidays cooking and baking. This can mean lots of time spent slouched while standing as you stir your mixes, roll your dough, and complete other cooking tasks. Stand on a mat to give yourself some comfort. It's also important to shift your weight from one leg to the other so one side of your body doesn't get the brunt of the pressure.
Driving
You may find yourself stuck in the car for hours as you make your way to a family holiday gathering. Maybe you plan on heading out for vacation when Christmas break begins. Whatever the case may be, it's important to use lumbar support in the car so you can prevent an ache in your back. Be sure to get out and stretch often as well and do small stretches in the car when you can to keep your joints flexible.
