Foods That Can Make You Happy!
By Sara Butler
Stress eating or emotional eating isn't a good habit to get into, but that doesn't mean there aren't foods out there that can legitimately and healthily make you happier. It's true! There are foods that have been proven to boost your mood that also happen to be very good for you. Here are a few foods you should put on your plate the next time you feel like you need a bit of a pick me up.
Black Beans
Black beans are full of the mineral magnesium that helps to give the hormone serotonin a boost in your body. They also are full of antioxidants, fiber, and other nutritious nutrients such as copper, potassium, and iron. Basically, they're great go-to food for your health and happiness.
Halibut
Just for the halibut, try a little for dinner sometime this week -- you may find yourself a little happier due to the protein these fish pack. Protein can also have an influence on your brain's serotonin levels and its serotonin that helps you to feel happy. It also happens to be a very filling food and nothing makes you happier than walking away from a meal feeling satisfied.
Beets
When in doubt, just beet it. That's because they're full of betaine, which helps to elevate your mood as it supports healthy serotonin production in the brain. They also contain a fair amount of folic acid, which helps to stabilize your mental and emotional health.
Chamomile Tea
If you're looking for something to sip, then try some chamomile tea. Research has revealed that chamomile helps to keep your circadian rhythm in check, especially during winter months when the light is low. It also helps to improve cognitive functioning when you're awake - probably because you're able to sleep so well at night. Who doesn't feel better when they're well-rested?
Eggs
An argument could be made that eggs are the perfect food. They're full of Vitamin B, zinc, iodide, and omega-3 fatty acids - plus some serious protein. That keeps you feeling fuller for longer and give you the energy to happily complete your tasks for the day. Plus, they're relatively low in calories for the nutrients they supply your body, so they're great for those who are watching how much they eat.
Some foods are comforting but other foods can actually change your mood. Find a few healthy ones to help you take your mood up a notch.
