Enjoy the Riverwalk Sans Back Pain

By Virginia Laird

Summertime in San Antonio can be a quite pleasant experience. One of the more popular places to visit is the Riverwalk. However, for many tackling the Riverwalk, it can prove to be problematic for the back. Rather than avoiding one of your favorite spots, chiropractors suggest there are a few things you can do to prevent this pain and still enjoy the Riverwalk this summer. A few tips recommended include:

  • Carry a small purse
  • Dress comfortably
  • Take breaks along the way

Carry a Small Purse

As you enjoy all there is to take in along the great Riverwalk, chiropractors recommend that carrying a small purse can be beneficial. For beginners, a small purse prevents you from packing too much in it. This can help you keep your load light. Research indicates that a heavy purse can tug at the spine which can cause restriction and shifting in these joints. This can lead to a great deal of pain that can prevent you from enjoying your night on the town. Before you head out to enjoy the sights of the city, make sure you swap to a smaller purse and only carry the essentials to keep your load light.

Dress Comfortably

As you well know, walking this area can require a good bit of time spent on your feet. Chiropractors suggest that when doing this, it is necessary to dress comfortably, including your shoes. Wearing the wrong type of shoes when spending time on your feet can lead to a great deal of back pain. Chiropractors indicate that the best shoes are ones which offer plenty of support. For the most part this is a tennis shoe. However, there are other shoes which do provide the support needed to prevent back pain. Before you head out, make sure that you are wearing shoes that support the activities you will be taking part in.

Take Breaks Along the Way

Chiropractors say that any time you plan to spend long periods of time on your feet, taking breaks along the way is necessary. While you are taking in the sights of the Riverwalk, there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy your surroundings and give your feet a break. During these breaks, stretch just a bit to release tension. Making time for a break every hour can help keep back pain at bay. Make sure the next time you visit this area that you are not in a hurry and have plenty of time for breaks.

For further help keeping back pain at bay, it is suggested that you consider routine chiropractic care.
