Taking Proper Care of Yourself and Your Back

By Rachel Shouse

It can be hard to put yourself first at times. There are so many different things pulling you in all different directions throughout your day. In order to complete all you need to do in a day, you need to take proper care of yourself. Taking good care of yourself involves things like maintaining a good relationship with your chiropractor, getting adequate exercise, and eating a healthy diet.

Maintaining a Good Relationship With Your Chiropractor

If you're new to chiropractic care, you could have quite a few questions. Your first question could very well be, why is it important for me to see a chiropractor? Well, many people see a chiropractor because they're facing some sort of problem and are trying to get different opinions on how to handle it. Others choose to because they want to take a more natural approach to their health care.

It's rather easy to see why people choose to see a chiropractor. They can help prevent the need for serious interventions such as surgeries and painkillers. In order to avoid such problems, keep an open and honest relationship with your doctor. Be sure to tell them when you're in pain and be honest about how you think it's happening. There's nothing they haven't heard or seen so let that calm any anxiety you may be experiencing.

Getting Adequate Exercise

Hearing about how important it is to exercise can sometimes feel extremely repetitious to those who aren't super excited about making this change. While exercise can feel like more work, try to remember what you're accomplishing throughout this journey.

Getting adequate exercise will strengthen your heart which reduces your risk for heart disease later in life. Working out also reduces your risk for diabetes and strokes. Exercising doesn't have to be a miserable experience. Be sure to make it fun. Listen to music, invite friends or family, just do whatever you need to in order to make it enjoyable for you.

Eat With Intention

Food can be so yummy and enjoyable. It can also be hard for some to exhibit self-control in this area. While eating isn't bad, stuffing your body with foods that aren't going to benefit you in any way is. This can be a hard habit to break as for some it can be an addiction.

Enjoying what you eat is important. Food can be really good and it doesn't have to taste bad in order to be healthy. Instead of stir frying some veggies in butter, use extra-virgin olive oil. Also, try to replace unhealthy cravings with similar healthy foods. Think about texture and flavor when looking for a healthy alternative to your favorite junk foods.
