Kids and Back Pain
By Tom Herrin
At one time or another, a lot of people deal with children. They are loads of fun and keep people in a young frame of mind. Whether it is someone else's children, their own, or some other relations such as grandkids or nieces or nephews, they may brighten the day with their smiles and laughter. Another thing they may do is cause back pain. It isn't that they do it intentionally, but when people are lifting and tugging on children, it may result in pain. If you spend time with some wiry young children and end up with an aching back, a visit to a chiropractor may bring back the pleasure to the experience.
What Is the Connection?
When people spend time pulling and/or lifting kids, they may end up straining the muscles that support the spine. This may allow a joint dysfunction to occur. With this, pressure may be placed on a nerve and cause pain. It may begin as what seems to be minor, but it can often increase in intensity over time until it is virtually unbearable. There may be little relief in sight. The thought of resting may be more like a wish than a reality.
Chiropractors Can Help
When people go to a chiropractor with back pain, they may expect to be given an adjustment in which the spine is gently manipulated so that the injured joint is restored to its optimal position. When this happens, the pressure is taken off of the nerve. This can relieve the pain. Since this is all done naturally, there is no need for pain medications. That also means no risk of side effects or addiction. There is nothing to interfere with the natural healing process. The chiropractor may suggest some exercises that can help to strengthen the muscles that support the injured joint.
