Chiropractic's Magic on Springtime Allergies
By Donna Kostiew
Spring is finally here and for many, it’s a season of awakening. The circle of life has started its process all over again as the trees, flowers, and grass wake up from their slumber and begin their breathtaking transformation. It’s certainly a time of beauty for so many people and poses as the perfect backdrop for family photos, weddings, and all good things outdoors. But for others, it’s simply a time of torture, and you can often find these people holed up in their homes, windows and doors shut tight, clutching a box of tissues. These are the people who suffer from seasonal allergies. And no matter how nice the day is, or how beautiful the cherry blossoms in their neighborhood may be, many would prefer to stay happily inside.
Don’t let Allergies Keep you Homebound
Seasonal allergies affect millions of people of all ages during specific times every year. They typically occur during spring or fall when spores and pollen are released into the air. People with allergies can feel helpless, frustrated, and angry because they often don’t know what to do to ease their symptoms, such as:
- Runny nose
- Congestion
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Dark circles under eyes
How to Reduce Your Allergy Symptoms
There are many things you can do to reduce your symptoms. Let’s take a look at some easy actions that can make a big difference in how much suffering you will experience.
- Keep doors and windows closed during high pollen days
- Wear a dust mask when cleaning or vacuuming
- Avoid hanging your laundry outside and wash your bedsheets weekly
- Invest in a humidifier
- Avoid being outdoors on dry, windy days
- Get a chiropractic adjustment
Did you catch that last suggestion? Because it’s an important one.
Chiropractic Care for Allergies? Yes!
When the spine is out of its proper alignment, the body’s communication system can be interrupted, compromising its immune system. The immune system helps to filter out any harmful substances that come into the body, and allergens are no exception. When the immune system responds to these allergens, the dreaded sneezing, coughing, and inflammation that we recognize as allergy symptoms rear their ugly heads. Essentially, the response is an overreaction of the system that is meant to protect us, and it can be torture!
A chiropractic adjustment helps to reduce the symptoms of seasonal allergies and sinus infections without the use of any medications. It does so by opening the pathways that were interrupted so the brain can communicate with the body more effectively, and opening up the sinuses which allows them to drain properly on their own.
If you are one of the millions who suffer from seasonal allergies, please consider leaving your home and heading to The Joint Chiropractic for treatment. Spring is waiting for you and you’re going to want to be outside to see it.
