Prosperity Can Charge a Price Without a Vacation
By Tom Herrin
When communities grow, many times the pressure is on for its citizens to work at a fast pace in order to keep up and stay ahead of the next guy. Simply obtaining all of those extras that may be accumulated by working without taking breaks was considered to be the way to go. Many hard-working individuals chose to forego their annual vacations in order to get the jump on the rest. The truth is that taking a vacation can be a major contributor to achieving better health. For those who take them, the greatest plus may be better overall health.
It May Be Great for the Heart
Studies have shown that vacations may be extremely valuable for those who take them. In some studies, men have been seen to be 32 percent less likely to die of a heart attack and 21 percent less likely to die of any other cause that is not related to age than those who don’t take that time off. In other studies, women who skipped vacations have been known to be more likely to develop coronary problems than those who take them two times a year. There seems to be a significant correlation between vacations and health.
It May Save Relationships
Far too many people have problems in their relationships with family members. This may well be a strong indicator as to the success and failures of so many family units. Years ago, people spent more time working at their homes. They may have farmed or simply performed more chores that involved the entire family. Life today has changed quite a bit. When people take vacations, they may be able to reintroduce themselves to the family. Spending time together can allow better communication. A vacation may allow this to happen in a different atmosphere.
It Can Be Fun for a Change
Too many people simply don’t take the time to have fun. Every time I have taken a vacation, I have asked myself why I haven’t done it more often. It can be a great way to relax and lower the stress level. This may mean less illness and accidents. An alert mind and body can provide a great feeling of health. Having fun is not a bad thing. Take a vacation and find out what you have been missing.
