More Time at Home May Be Best for All of Us

By Tom Herrin

As many people have had the experience of staying home more recently, they may have mixed opinions about the experience.  For some, it may seem like one of the greatest tests they have ever had to endure.  For others, it may seem like a real throwback to a time in which more people spent time at home rather than follow some hectic schedule that often seems to have no break.  Either way, it appears that spending more time at home is now a small part of a bigger reality.  While a short time ago, such a situation may have been a distant bad dream, it is now a part of life that many will not soon forget.

Share Time and Talk

Since so much time is being spent together, making the most out of the circumstances may be good for everyone.  There are likely some games in a closet in most homes.  Now may be a great time to get them out.  As people play something with no real time limit, it may open up more opportunities for conversation.  Another thing that can be helpful is doing puzzles.  Anything such as this can be a productive means of opening up household members to each other.  Casual conversation is a good way to warm relationships.

Physical Activity Is Important

When people experience a change in routine, they often tend to slack off of exercise.  With many sharing a common space regularly, it may be a prime time to try to establish an exercise program.  If everyone gets involved, they may be able to provide more support for one another.  Taking turns leading could be a good way to maintain commitment.  Using a little creativity may spark a sense of adventure and fun.  There are lots of things to do that can get the heart rate raised and accomplish the desired purpose.

Learn to Appreciate Others

Too many times, we all have a tendency to pay too little attention to those with whom we should be closest.  Our family enjoys having meals together and sitting around the table afterwards.  Some of our best times have been spent simply debriefing about our day.  Everyone seems to feel open to others, and there is a general attitude of acceptance.  It can be a really great time for the kids.  We enjoy it.  Hopefully you will as well.
