Fall Time Fitness for the Whole Family
By Brandi Swieter
September means the start of fall, with leaves changing to shades of orange and yellow before fluttering down along yards and sidewalks. Just because summer is over doesn’t mean people have to start staying inside and missing out on some outdoor fitness fun. Fall time is ideal for fitness for the whole family with so many gorgeous sights to see along while people are maintaining their level of exercise.
Fall is the perfect time to go on a nature walk through the woods. The leaves fall down as people walk underneath and the ever-changing colors give a beautiful scene to look at. With the weather often sunny but slightly chilly, autumn makes for the ideal time to take a stroll without overheating. Families can go on a walk together and enjoy the scenery while also getting in some exercise.
Summer clearance sales start happening well before autumn arrives. A main item that goes on clearance is the bicycle as manufacturers want to get rid of old models before they start putting out their newer selections in the spring. Take the opportunity to purchase new bikes for each family member and enjoy some time riding around outside in the fresh brisk air.
Many families spend their summers outdoors enjoying the water. Once more mild weather hits, the beaches start to thin out. Gyms are ideal for fall and winter months because people can have an indoor space to work out as they see necessary. Many facilities provide options for the whole family so both adults and children can get in some exercise on cool or rainy days.
Autumn means Halloween, and that means themed events that families can participate in throughout the season. The months of September and October are often filled with apple picking, trick or treating, monster dash races, haunted mazes, and more. Take the whole family out to these events so everyone can get in some exercise together while enjoying the fun nature of Halloween and fall.
Fall time fitness can be fun for the whole family if everyone works together to make it great. Whether families head to the gym, go on a nature walk, decide on a bike ride, or go a different route, there are plenty of ways to stay fit in the fall months when the weather is changing. Take advantage now before the really cold weather hits and the busy holiday season takes over.
