Chiropractic Treatment and Exercise Can Be Helpful

By Stephen R. Farris

After a long day at your job, workout or participating in recreational sports, we may experience pain or stiffness in our muscles and joints. Maybe we sat too long at the computer or desk, or lifted a weight improperly, or fell down hard while trying to make that layup. Whatever the case may be, it might be time to visit a chiropractor to see about treatment.

Your chiropractor might be able to give you relief with a simple adjustment and may offer you exercise suggestions like stretching, walking briskly or maybe some pool therapy to help relieve the pain in muscles and joints. The one thing you don't want to do -- and it's normally our first inclination -- is sit and do nothing, hoping the pain will simply go away. You have to find a way to keep moving and working through what may ail you.

Make Time and Take Time to Get Better

One way to do this is to put aside some of the time you normally spend watching television shows during the week. Since DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is a thing now, it wouldn't be hard to record your favorite shows and watch them later so you can spend that half-hour to an hour getting in a little exercise. Start off slow and work your way up, even if it's only 10 minutes to begin with. You can accomplish a lot with a 10-minute walk.

Turn Your Exercise Routine Into a Regular Event

If you drive to work every day, park a little farther from the main entrance to make the walk a little longer. Maybe while at your desk answering the phone or typing away at the computer, you could do a few stretches at timed intervals throughout the morning and afternoon. These ideas could be incorporated into the everyday routine and quickly become a part of your healthier lifestyle goals.

Invite a Friend

Nothing makes exercising more enjoyable than having a friend join in. You both can visit with each other while on a bike ride or walking, or help each other spot if lifting weights is your exercise choice. Plus, it makes the time pass by quicker.

Recovery Comes With Patience

It's not an overnight fix, but combining chiropractic treatment and a good exercise routine can help you achieve recovery quicker than by not doing anything at all.
