Chiropractic Care in the NFL
By Randi Morse
It surprises me that football is not officially recognized as the national pastime. If I go to my friends' homes on any given Sunday or Monday, football is likely on. Football fans are passionate people who love to cheer for their sport, but football players are even more passionate. I may be a hockey fan, but I have a great deal of respect for the athletes who put their bodies on the line to get the pigskin into the end zone.
But football can be extremely rough on the body. The smashes, crashes, and tackles can take a serious toll on every part of an athlete's body, which is why so many professional football players, and the teams they play on, are utilizing chiropractic care.
Professional Chiropractic Care
There was a survey done in the National Football League to try to determine how many teams utilized a chiropractor. The results came back that 77 percent of the team trainers opted to refer their players to a licensed chiropractor. Did you know that all 32 teams in the NFL use chiropractors? Even college teams are discovering that chiropractors can help to heal injuries but can also help athletes prevent such injuries.
The Benefits
There are several benefits that a football athlete can receive from regular chiropractic visits. For example, football is an extremely brutal sport and quite often players wind up sore and stiff after a game. Regular chiropractic care can help keep the body at its optimal performance level, which helps to reduce the stiffness and pain that we see in people who played football both professionally and semi-professionally.
Regular chiropractic care also helps athletes to lessen the possibility of injury through building increased muscle strength. There has been some research that has proven that regular chiropractic care can help to tone and strengthen muscles. This helps players avoid injury. Muscles that are working at their peak and that are not strained are much less likely to be injured.
Football players are occasionally plagued with headaches. This is due to head and neck trauma received during a football game. You can't expect to continuously tackle people without it having some sort of wear and tear on the body. Chiropractic therapy can help relieve those headaches through realignment and proper care.
You don't have to be an NFL player to take advantage of chiropractic care. Regular chiropractic care is helpful for athletes in all sports at all levels, including collegiate and professional.
