3 Winter Activities That Can Keep You Fit

By Genevieve Cunningham

It's not quite winter yet, but the cooler winds are definitely beginning to blow in. The nights are crisp and the mornings are jacket worthy. While there is plenty to look forward to at this time of year -- hot cocoa and comfy clothes and holidays -- it's also riddled with challenges. And perhaps the biggest challenge is keeping off that winter weight! Luckily, with a little planning, it's completely possible to stay in shape. If you're interested in managing your health through the upcoming cold season, take a look at these fun activities that can help you find success.

Ice Skating

What could be more fun than some festive ice skating? Winter is a great time to lace up the skates and make some laps around the rink. Ice skating is hard work! If you're indoors, you'll probably break a sweat. If you're outdoors, you might not break a sweat, but you'll definitely feel the burn in your muscles. And the bonus is that ice skating is such fun! If you want a family fun way to get or stay in shape, ice skating is it!

Mall Walking

It sounds silly, right? Mall walking for exercise? Does anybody really do that? But since the holidays are near, you'll probably be walking the mall anyway. Why not make it a workout? To do this, all you need is some supportive shoes and a brisk pace. You can even do this activity with your family in tow, which means you have zero excuses for avoiding exercise this season.

Racquetball

Racquetball is both fun and super fast-paced. The ball is hard and incredibly bouncy, which means when it hits the wall, it ricochets with speed and force. You'll definitely have to move your feet quickly, and you'll inevitably break a sweat. But because racquetball requires, essentially, a boxed-in room, it's a great activity for getting out of the cold while still working hard.

Winter might not be the easiest season for staying fit, but it can happen. Just use these activities to help you get moving in the right direction. With some planning, a little creativity, and a willingness to try something new, you and your whole family can stay fit and have a blast while doing it.
