Don't Wait for Ice to Improve Health

Plenty of trial and error goes into searching for those activities that seem to be the right fit.  After all, when people are trying to come up with something new, it can be a real challenge. Most people tend to stay in some big ruts due to the fact that old habits die so hard.  They hold onto what they have always done. Getting outside the box can create more opportunities to improve health. One good option is field hockey along with its indoor companion, gym hockey.  Field hockey is a game that can be an instant hit with kids or adults. Once people see the game in action, it is hard to resist getting involved.

It Can Be Good for the Heart and Circulatory System

Hockey is a game in which there is a lot of action.  People are in almost constant motion. Whether or not they are running, they are moving.  With the opportunity to set their own pace, people can increase their pace as they are able to.  As they get more in condition for this activity, they can see a noticeable improvement in their cardio function.

It Can Be Good for Teamwork

When people play a game such as hockey -- or soccer -- teamwork is critical to success.  Knowing how to use the field and where teammates are and how they move can carry over to other things.  Teamwork is essential in school, many jobs, and families. People continually use problem-solving every day of their lives.  Most people can benefit greatly by being better able to work with others to identify ways to deal with problems.

It May Help to Improve Speed

While most of us are not all that concerned about speed, we may be able to do things more efficiently if we are able to improve it.  Speed in general movement can mean better response time. It can be useful when we are conditioning for other kinds of activities such as tennis, racquetball, or something similar.  Increased speed often means we are able to burn calories at a higher rate. The bottom line, however, is that field or gym hockey can be a lot of fun. Try the game, and see for yourself.  When we have gotten the game out, the kind of response from all of the kids has been amazing. For those of us who are older, it can make us feel young again.
