Shorten Workouts and Have More Time

By Tom Herrin

Long exercise sessions are the norm for many who really have the drive to become healthier.  It may be because they are driven in this way, or they feel that they need to spend a considerable amount of time in their workout or lose ground.  For some, the longer time may be essential.  In most cases, however, the real need is to simply get regular exercise.  This could be in one of many forms.  Reducing their normal exercise routine may be an answer or making a few small changes could be all it takes.  Whichever is the case, a little advance planning is usually all it takes combined with some commitment.

Are You a Runner?

If you are someone who enjoys running, it is likely that you run for quite a bit of distance or time.  The fact is that, for those whose goal is to manage health and protect themselves against some health issues, shorter periods of time running may do the trick.  It has been shown that running seven minutes per day may reduce the chance of death from heart disease.  Information from the Journal of the American College of Cardiology indicated that those who do this may reduce their risks of such as much as 45 percent.  It doesn't take a lot of time or exhaustive running.  They simply need to commit some regular time.

Maybe Running Is Not for You

Not everyone is a runner.  For some, it is not so refreshing.  In such cases, riding a bike of some kind may do the job.  A Japanese study found that people who ride a stationary bike for just 10 minutes per day are happier.  They also are able to perform functions that require sharp mental ability and/or good reaction time.  As people are healthier, they may find a little more joy in what they do.

Find Something That Is Yours

There is nothing wrong with personalizing a workout.  Identifying something that you enjoy doing is a great first step.  Doing it with some brief periods of intensity may be adequate enough to take help maintain good health.  When you can do this, you can still make time to do many of the other things you have on your schedule.  This can be a good feeling of stress relief as well as a good way to manage time and effort.  See what works for you.
