There Are Lots of Healthy Drinks

By Tom Herrin

Do you find yourself trying to drink things that are healthy but end up with very few choices you feel good about?  We all know that water is a generally safe bet, but we may also have a little more craving for a little more flavor.  Many of us go back and forth with things such as carbonated beverages as we try to clean up our act, so to speak.  Other things such as milk are usually good, but it may not agree with everyone, or it may have more calories than we care for.  What we may desire is something that we can drink midway between meals, or with a snack.  There are some good things out there, but we need to do our research before we go all out with them.

Check Out the Ingredients

Before going all out for some new drink, it may be helpful to educate yourself to determine whether it is for you.  After all, we are all made different, and our needs are different as well.  Many of the popular drinks today are full of sugar.  Some may contain artificial sugars that may not agree with us.  Some contain large amounts of substances such as caffeine.  These may provide a pickup but also too much of it.

Natural Is Mostly Healthy

Sometimes we get into a groove in which we are trying our best to go natural.  This is another case in which we should exercise some caution as these products are all over the place.  Read the labels carefully to be sure you are getting what you are wanting.  Juices are pretty safe, but even they may be loaded with sugars.  If they are the real thing, they likely have a good supply of vitamins and minerals.

Do Your Own Thing

It is not that difficult to create your own healthy drink.  Many restaurants offer all kinds of selections and ways to customize.  Adding flavors to water can be a pretty big hit.  There are all kinds of juices that may accent water in just the right way.  Even if you want to venture a little off of that path, some add things such as a touch of chocolate or vanilla along with fruit.  Being adventurous may help you to have a nice, refreshing drink that may really hit the spot.  Try it for yourself and see.
