Some Kind of Exercise Should Be Part of Your Day

By Tom Herrin

Normally when we think of exercise, we picture ourselves in a pair of shorts participating in some sort of exercise group or class.  It isn't really all that, but we often limit our vision to those things that are the most familiar.  Whether it is a standard exercise program or jogging, we tend to limit how we think of it.  All too often, we fail to use our imagination to create an image of what other kinds of things could be included.  There are all kinds of games and activities that can get us involved and provide physical activity that can do a good job of improving our overall condition.  The key is that we have to be willing to make ourselves get up and try something.

Do You Roller Skate?

The chances are that you have not been roller skating on a regular basis for quite a while.  As we get older, we may think this is for kids and for good reason.  We all probably remember someone who broke a bone roller skating.  It is possible to move pretty fast with little opportunity to catch yourself if you lack some skill.  Many of the newer products available can make this work better.  The skates are generally lighter weight and easier to handle.  There is also better safety equipment such as helmets and pads.  If you think you may like something a little different, these are affordable enough to try without breaking the bank.

Riding a Bicycle Is Still Possible

If you would like some kind of exercise that is low-impact, riding a bicycle can be a good thing.  Even if you haven't ridden in a long time, it can be fun and easy to pick back up.  I love riding a bicycle and do so as much a possible.  It can give a sense of freedom that is great as you move along.  You can do it alone or with others.  Just be sure to use a safety helmet.  One more thing is that if you haven't ridden in a long time, you may want to investigate the various kinds of seats available.  The right one can make a difference.

Walking Is Easy

Even if you don't find anything else that suits you, you can always go for a walk.  There are plenty of walking trails in most communities and they are usually in good settings.  As long as you don't try to do too much at the start, you may find that it meets your needs, and you can get a lot done in 30 minutes or so.
