Tips to Drink More Water
By Sara Butler
Water is essential for good health and wellness, but many people struggle to drink enough each day. Even when you know the benefits of getting water in, you can easily forget to constantly sip throughout the day. If you’re barely keeping your head above water, you shouldn’t despair. There are some effective tricks and tips you can work into your day to help. Here are a few you can try.
Make Water Comfort Water
If you’re normally a coffee or tea drinker, then this tip is for you! While you’re waiting for your morning cup to brew, throw a glass of water in the microwave to warm it up. Then throw in a bit of lemon and sip as you wait. After your first cup of coffee or tea, try having another cup of warm water.
Become an Aficionado
You have to think of water tasting like wine tasting. Try different brands and types of water available, such as mineral, spring, filtered, and sparkling. Just make sure to check out the nutrition information and make sure you’re not getting a type of water with a lot of added sugar -- they’re out there.
Drink and Drive
When it comes to water, you have the green light to drink and drive. Keeping water in your car is a great way to make sure you hit your water goals for the day. If it’s on hand, then you can sip as you drive. Think about other places you can stash water, such as next to your recliner, in your bag, or under your desk at work.
Fill Up at Dinner
At the dinner table, start your meal off with a glass of water. You don’t have to drink the whole glass but have it there so you can sip before, during, and after your meal. Sipping water every few bits will also help you to slow down and savor your meal while helping you reach your water goals.
Combine Routines
Another great way to up your water intake is to get in the habit of drinking water when you do other things that are a part of your routine. When you take a bath, take a glass of water with you. When you’re exercising, have a water bottle on hand. Going to bed, a tall glass of cool water belongs on your bedside table. Work water habits into your already established routine.
Make water a priority in your life. If you get enough each day, then you won't believe how good you'll feel!
