The Most Effective Fitness Moves
By Sara Butler
When deciding on a workout plan, it’s hard to go wrong with the kind of exercise you choose. Just getting up and getting your body moving is the most important part. But if you want to break it down to the nitty-gritty, some exercises tend to be a bit more effective than others. Everyone who works out wants to get the best results. Here are a few moves that will help you be a bit more on target during your workouts.
Best to Increase Metabolism?
If doing mountain climbers strikes fear in your heart, there’s an alternative that is actually a little bit better for those who want to spur their metabolism: squat jacks. Squat jacks are just as they sound - a combination of jumping jacks and squats that help to open your hips up and target your glutes, core, and legs better than mountain climbers.
Best to Sculpt Abs?
OK, maybe you’re not looking for an eight-pack or even a four-pack, but strength in your core is incredibly important for spinal health, which means you should work on it. When it comes to sit-ups versus V-ups, the best would be V-ups. That’s because they target all the muscles in your abdomen, including your obliques and lower abdominals.
Best to Tone the Back?
You’ve probably done your fair share of the superman move or the renegade row in order to tone your back muscles, but which does a better job? Superman was the man of steel for a reason -- and the move named for him is the best way to strengthen your back muscles. Plus, it’s a challenging move for shoulders and glutes too!
Best to Sculpt Your Legs and Abs Together?
Lunges and squats are both good for you to strengthen your legs and your abdominals together, but the lunge is slightly better because it creates more tension in your muscles than squats, providing more to you in the long run.
Best to Sculpt Biceps?
Both rows and curls are great ways to sculpt those upper arms, but if you really want to get the best results, then opt for curls. That’s because the bicep curl, as simple as it is, entirely targets your bicep muscle. That targeting helps to build it up and make it stronger.
